Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks
In line with current legislation and NHS requirements for extended services as part of the onboarding process to deliver extended services via Primary Eyecare Services (PES) all clinical practitioners must provider appropriate evidence of Disclosure and Barring Service checks (previously CRB).
This Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check needs to be:
- Enhanced DBS with check of DBS barred lists for adults and children
- Update service subscribed to where possible (Good practice)
As part of the onboarding process you will be asked to:
- Upload the original DBS certificate
- Provide DBS Certificate number and permission to check for updates on the DBS update service (where registered)
Your employer may have a provider they use for DBS checks or there are other ways of making applications (further info on the DBS Government site here). Some optical bodies have partner organisations who support this such as the AOP - whose information can be found here.
