Integrated Children Service

Your child has been referred by the hospital orthoptists to the integrated children service to see a community optometrist for an assessment.

The optometrist will contact you in the near future to arrange a convenient appointment. It is vital you attend this appointment as untreated eye conditions can lead to poor vision in your child eyes and may affect their development, school work and performance, behaviour and may also affect them in the future.

On this visit your child may be assessed for the need for glasses as well as looking at the general health of the eye. The most accurate way to achieve this is by using drops, the test is then performed by using a light and lenses. Any necessary glasses will need to be prescribed, these may be obtained from the optometrist who has tested your child eyes, or you may take the prescription to another optometrist and have the glasses made up there.
